SACRAMENTO – Senator Mike Morrell (R-Rancho Cucamonga) made the following statement following the passage of SB 149 (McGuire, D-Healdsburg) in the state senate:
“This week, legislative Democrats passed SB 149, which would require all candidates for president to release their tax returns in order for their names to be placed on the ballot in California. That is fine with me.
“However, when Republicans offered an amendment to apply this same condition to all statewide and legislative offices, Senate Democrats turned the proposal down. If the legislature is going to require more transparency for candidates of one office on the ballot, it only makes sense that it should also be required of candidates for every state office.
