SACRAMENTO – Senator Mike Morrell (R-Rancho Cucamonga) today issued the following statement in response to Governor Jerry Brown’s draft state budget proposal for 2017-18:
“While the state has seen record budgets in recent years, unfortunately, the same cannot be said for working Californians. Their hard-earned money does not go as far as it should and with legislative Democrats proposing higher taxes to pay for more bureaucracy, it will mean even less that families can invest in their futures. Given these budget trends, the governor should hold the line on any tax or fee increases.
“With the threat of another recession always looming around the corner, the focus needs to remain on growing our economy while continuing to pay down the hundreds of billions of dollars the state already owes in public pensions and other obligations. It is wrong to leave future generations saddled with ever mounting debt.”
